First authorized by Congress in 2005 and produced since 2006, the American Buffalo gold bullion coins are the very first 24-karat, .9999 fine gold coins to ever be produced by the U.S. Mint. The coins feature a modified version of James Earle Fraser’s iconic designs that were originally used on Type I Indian Head Nickels.
From 2006 until 2008, American Buffalos were only produced in 1-ounce pieces. Starting in 2008, the U.S. Mint expanded the coinage to include 1/2-ounce, 1/4-ounce, and 1/10-ounce coins.
The American Buffalo gold bullion coins are IRA-approved.
